NVIDIA’s reference clocks on the GeForce GTS 450 are fairly low with 783 MHz core, 1566 MHz CUDA cores, and 900 MHz memory, so it comes as no surprise that most board partners are shipping pre-overclocked cards at lauch.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface in one second. The number is calculated by multiplying the bus width by its memory clock speed. In the case of DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the card’s memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering — AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card could possibly record to the local memory per second — measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the card’s clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines — also called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card — the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
